Jessica Chastain Set To Star In ‘It’ Sequel; Who Could Join Her?

It was one of the most-anticipated horror movies of all-time, and the same will be true of the sequel that is set to release in September of 2019. According to Variety, two-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the adult version of Beverly.

Interestingly, Sophia Lillis, the actress who played young Beverly, said she would choose Chastain to play her adult part in the sequel, so it looks like that will happen. The other members of the “Losers’ Club” from It also gave their picks: Jaeden Lieberher (young Bill) chose Christian Bale, Finn Wolfhard (young Richie) chose Bill Hader, Jeremy Ray Taylor (young Ben) chose Chris Pratt, Chosen Jacobs (young Mike) chose Chadwick Boseman, Jack Dylan Grazer (young Eddie) chose Jake Gyllenhaal, and Wyatt Oleff (young Stanley) chose Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Maybe all the kids will get their wish, but these are my picks to act alongside Chastain in the sequel based on the book and young actor portrayals from the first movie.

There might not be room for more than one megastar in the film, but Jaeden Lierberher could have his pick come true with Christian Bale. Bill is essentially the leader of the Loser’s Club, but he’s scarred emotionally more than anyone from their first experience with Pennywise because his brother Georgie was killed. Bale currently has no movies lined up, and this could be a change-of-pace role for him if he’s interested.

OK, so maybe the kids are onto something, as Finn Wolfhard also gets his pick with Bill Hader. The Saturday Night Live star could bring the perfect combination of humor and depth as adult Richie, and he also happens to look a lot like Wolfhard.

James Marsden as Ben Hanscom

Chris Pratt is definitely a great choice by Jeremy Ray Taylor, but he is probably too big of a star now to be anything but the lead in a horror movie. Instead, James Marsden is a very solid option as the chubby kid that grew up to basically be a physical specimen, and the actor shown his range in HBO’s Westworld.

Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mike Hanlon

After defeating It as kids, Mike was the only member of the Losers’ Club to remain in Derry—as the town’s librarian. Perhaps the smartest in the group, Mike is determined to learn anything he can about the evil presence they faced, and Ejiofor has the charm and intelligence for the role.

Adam Scott as Eddie Kaspbrak

Obviously all the kids have after what they’ve been through, but Eddie has certainly seen some things that still haunt him almost three decades later. Scott is most well-known for his roles in Step Brothers and Parks and Recreation, but he’s taken on more serious roles in recent years with Black Mass and Big Little Lies. I think he would do a great job playing up Eddie’s fears.

Daniel Lapaine as Stanley Uris

This is a difficult role to cast, as while it will take a tremendous acting job to pull off, big names might not be interested because Stanley won’t have much screen time. Daniel Lapaine showed his ability to divulge into darkness for an episode of Black Mirror, and he should be willing to take on the challenge of another dark scene in a blockbuster horror film.
