2017 Heisman Watch (Week 7)

1. Saquon Barkley | Penn State RB | Junior | Last week: 1

The Heisman favorite had a bye last week, but now he might face his toughest test of the season as the Nittany Lions take on Michigan and the nation’s best defense. Those that aren’t at Beaver Stadium for the heavyweight matchup will be glued to their televisions for this one.

Season stats:

102 ATT | 649 YDS | 6.4 AVG | 6 TD

29 REC | 395 YDS | 13.6 AVG | 2 TD

8 RET | 258 YDS | 32.3 AVG | 1 TD

100% | 16 YDS | 1 PASS TD

2. Baker Mayfield | Oklahoma QB | Senior | Last week: 2

A big win in one of college football’s biggest rivalries will only help Baker Mayfield’s Heisman candidacy. Mayfield threw his first interception of the game, but he made plays when his team needed. He’ll look to keep it rolling and lead Oklahoma to a new win streak this Saturday at Kansas State.

Season stats:

72.7% | 1,937 YDS | 17 TD | 1 INT

39 ATT | 101 YDS | 2.6 AVG | 1 TD

3. J.T. Barrett | Ohio State QB | Senior | Last week: NR

After a SEVEN touchdown performance by J.T. Barrett against Nebraska, who is no slouch, J.T. Barrett is up to 26 total touchdowns compared to just one interception this season. The game against Oklahoma will continue to be a blemish because Mayfield is ahead of him in the Heisman race, as picked up the win on Ohio State’s home field, but Barrett is right in it.

Season stats:

66.7% | 1,838 YDS | 21 TD | 1 INT

70 ATT | 359 YDS | 5.1 AVG | 5 TD

4. Lamar Jackson | Louisville QB | Junior | Last week: 3

Jackson continues to perform, as he put up five total touchdowns against Boston College, but Louisville has lost two straight games and it might be hard for Jackson to repeat with playoff-contending teams having great candidates on their squads. Still, there might not be a more exciting player in college football than Jackson.

Season stats:

60.2% | 2,322 YDS | 16 TD | 5 INT

113 ATT | 690 YDS | 6.1 AVG | 10 TD

5. Bryce Love | Stanford RB | Junior | Last week: 4

Bryce Love came three yards short of making it seven straight games with over 150 rushing yards to start the year, but he still had a great 147-yard, two-touchdown performance against Oregon—and he would’ve easily eclipsed 150 yards if it wasn’t such a blowout. College football’s leading rusher should continue piling up the yardage against Oregon State this Thursday night.

Season stats:

135 ATT | 1,387 YDS | 10.3 AVG | 1 TD

4 REC | 19 YDS | 4.8 AVG
