Wendell Smallwood gets seven touches in Eagles' loss.
With Jay Ajayi inactive to rest for the postseason, Smallwood was active and got some work against the Cowboys. He carried four times for six yards and added three receptions for 24 yards. The second-year back will likely go back to being inactive for the postseason.
Wendell Smallwood is inactive tonight.
Though he was active in Jay Ajayi's first game with the Eagles back in Week 9, Smallwood is now out of the lineup because of the crowded Philadelphia backfield. This also probably means Ajayi is more comfortable with the playbook and should have a sizable role in his second game with the team. Smallwood can be dropped in all fantasy leagues.
Wendell Smallwood gets five carries against Denver.
Smallwood was clearly the fourth back in the rotation, not getting work until late in the game with it in hand. But the second-year back did run pretty well, gaining 25 yards on his five attempts. Smallwood isn't on the fantasy radar at the moment, as his role isn't big enough after the addition of Jay Ajayi to the Eagles backfield.
Wendell Smallwood sees just two touches in Week 8 win.
Smallwood rushed once for five yards and caught a nine-yard pass. A popular sleeper against a team that Philadelphia predictably handled, Smallwood took a backseat to Corey Clement behind LeGarrette Blount on Sunday. The second-year back doesn't need to be owned in a crowded running back group, especially with a matchup against the Broncos up next.
Wendell Smallwood gets ten touches against the Redskins.
This was Smallwood's first game back in a couple games, as he carried eight times for 25 yards and added two receptions for 14 yards. He ran better than LeGarrette Blount overall, but Blount didn't have much room to run at all versus Washington. Smallwood gets the 49ers next week and has a chance to do some damage if he gets another 10+ touches.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) is officially active against the Redskins.
He practiced all week and is ready to go after missing a couple games. This will likely be a running back by committee approach with LeGarrette Blount leading in carries, but Smallwood could get a good amount of work in the big NFC East game—including on third downs.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) is officially questionable for Week 7.
Smallwood was a full partipant all week, so we'd expect him to be ready for the Monday nighter against the Redskins. If active, he'll probably handle some of the third down work while also working in for some early-down carries. He'd be in the FLEX conversation, but there are probably better options out there.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) was a full participant in practice.
The second-year back appears ready to return after missing two games with his knee injury, but the official injury report for the game will be released tomorrow. The Eagles play the Redskins in a big NFC East matchup on Monday night.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) is inactive against the Panthers.
The second-year back didn’t practice at all this week, so this was fully expected. This is Smallwood’s second consecutive missed game. The Eagles will go with LeGarrette Blount, Corey Coleman, and Kenjon Barner in the backfield for the Thursday night contest.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) questionable for Thursday night's game against the Panthers.
Smallwood missed the Eagles' win over the Cardinals on Sunday, and after not practicing at all this week, it's difficult to imagine him being out there against the Panthers. Philadelphia has other capable bodies behind LeGarrette Blount, so expect Smallwood to sit again with Corey Clement and Kenjon Barner picking up complimentary touches in the backfield. All three running backs are risky fantasy plays against Carolina's stout defense.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) did not practice today.
Smallwood didn't practice all week, and he's missed the first two days of practice this week ahead of Thursday's game against Carolina. Perhaps he can get out there for the light practice tomorrow and play in the game, but don't count on it.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) is officially inactive for Week 5.
Smallwood didn’t practice all week, so it would’ve been surprising to see him play in the game. LeGarrette Blount and Corey Clement will get most of the carries for the Eagles, with Kenjon Barner also likely to mix in more. Smallwood has until Thursday to get ready for Week 6 versus the Panthers.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) is questionable for Week 5.
The second-year back didn't practice this week, but the Eagles are not ready to rule him out yet. It'd be a slight surprise if he played without practicing, but maybe Philadelphia will take a different approach than most teams when dealing with missed practice time.
Wendell Smallwood (knee) did not practice today.
This is the second-year back's second-straight day not practicing, so it doesn't look like he has a great chance of playing on Sunday against the Cardinals. Perhaps he can get out there for practice tomorrow, but he'll probably be declared inactive if not.
Wendell Smallwood gets 14 touches in Week 4.
Smallwood carried ten times for 34 yards and a touchdown, along with four receptions for 45 yards against the Chargers. The second-year back started the game and scored the touchdown on a nice run, but LeGarrette Blount was more effective as a runner overall. Still, Smallwood looks like he'll be the main receiving back for the Eagles while also getting a good amount of carries. He's worth an add if he's on the waiver wire and you're looking for a back.
Wendell Smallwood leads Eagles in Week-3 rushing.
Smallwood carried 12 times for 71 yards against the Giants while adding a nine-yard reception. The Eagles finally committed to the running game, as they ran more times than they passed it and mixed in all their backs. In a committee, Smallwood is a risky FLEX option until he starts putting up consistent numbers.
Wendell Smallwood gets four touches in Week 2.
The second-year back had three carries for four yards and one reception for -3 yards. Darren Sproles (ten carries, two receptions) handled most of the work in the backfield for the Eagles, but Smallwood was at least ahead of LeGarrette Blount, who had zero carries in the game. Smallwood is just a bench hold you have to hope starts getting 12-15+ carries per game this season.
Wendell Smallwood gets five Week 1 touches.
Smallwood had four carries for four yards and one reception for five yards against the Redskins. It appeared Smallwood didn't get into the game until the second quarter, and LeGarrette Blount (14 carries) worked as the clear lead runner for the Eagles. The second-year back is just a waiver wire option or bench hold as of now.
Wendell Smallwood makes 2017 preseason debut.
The second-year back from West Virginia missed most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, but he's back to 100% and played in the third preseason game for the Eagles. The starters played only a quarter, and Smallwood played exclusively with them, mixing in with LeGarrette Blount. He had four carries for 28 yards and showed some good explosiveness and vision in his first game back from the injury. It looks like Smallwood's roster spot is locked up despite missing so much time this preseason, and now it's just a matter of how much playing time he gets this season. Smallwood is worth a selection in deeper leagues, and he's someone to watch even in standard sized leagues.
Wendell Smallwood is impressing at Eagles camp.
All accounts from those at the team's practices seem to be hyping the second-year back and his improvement from last year. Smallwood himself said he wasn't in shape last year, probably implying he wasn't ready for the rigors of a 16-game NFL season. The Eagles have a lot of running backs, including LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles, Corey Clement, and Donnel Pumphrey, and workloads are up in the air for the team. Blount has missed the last few practices because of personal reasons, so Smallwood is getting more opportunities with him out. This backfield is one to watch this preseason.
Wendell Smallwood ineffective along with entire Eagles offense.
He had eight carries for 19 yards. Even if Ryan Mathews (knee) remains out, Smallwood is an uninspiring fantasy option.
Wendell Smallwood rushed nine times for 37 yards and caught a 10-yard pass in Monday night's loss to the Packers.
Without Ryan Mathews (knee), Smallwood was the starter for Philadelphia, but could capitalize on the opportunity. Perhaps the Eagles should have given him more than nine carries on a night where Carson Wentz threw 36 times. Guard Brandon Brooks was out for the Eagles, so maybe the rookie will be better if he gets another start next week versus the Bengals.
Smallwood sees 13 carries in Week 11 win.
The rookie rushed 13 times for 70 yards. If you said going into the week that Smallwood would play how he did, we would have thought he became the starter, but instead, the whole Eagles rushing attack thrived. With Darren Sproles returning to more of a 3rd down role, Smallwood looks like the handcuff for the resurgent Ryan Mathews. He is off the fantasy radar for next week in Seattle.
