Strengths

Plays low with a high motor. Consistently gets underneath blockers to create leverage. Can cause havoc in the backfield. Good overall power and athleticism. Strong upper body to shed blockers and strong base to hold his ground. Hands are violent. Has the range to chase down ball-carriers. Shows quality burst to get to the quarterback. Scheme versatile. Great toughness. Won’t back down from a challenge.

 

Weaknesses

Needs to do a better job moving blockers and making plays when engaged. Hands and feet can both be slow at times. Durability is a concern.

Conclusion

Despite starring on a Georgia team played in the national championship this year, Trenton Thompson is going under the radar as an aggressive defensive tackle that should be ready-made to contribute in the NFL. Fans might not be excited if their team picks him on Day 2, but Thompson should be a solid contributor for years.
